Driveways North of the Bayou
Asphalt paving in DeLisle serves a small community with deep roots. DeLisle is a census-designated place in Harrison County on the north side of DeLisle Bayou and the Wolf River, which separate it from Pass Christian. It shares Pass Christian's ZIP code but is not inside the city limits, so local roads and right-of-way questions go to Harrison County. The 2020 census counted 1,275 people and 440 households, up 11.2% from 2010.
Old names on the map
In 1699 and 1700, the expedition of Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville, which included the royal cartographer Guillaume Delisle, charted and named Bayou Delisle and its neighbors. The early settlement was called La Riviere des Loups, the Wolf River. Philipe Saucier received Spanish land grants in the area in 1781 and 1794, and a post office operated under the name DeLisle from 1884 to 1974.
Ground near the water
DeLisle sits at about 23 feet of elevation, with the bayou and the Wolf River close by. Properties near the water have soil that stays wet after rain. A driveway built over soft, wet ground without a proper base will rut and settle. We remove soft material, build up a compacted stone base and grade the drive so water runs off to a ditch or swale rather than pooling.
Wooded lots
Many DeLisle homes sit on wooded lots with long drives. Tree roots lift and crack asphalt, and shade keeps the surface damp, which encourages moss and softens edges. We cut out root damage and rebuild without cutting major structural roots where we can avoid it, and we recommend keeping leaves and needles off the edges.
Industrial neighbors
DuPont opened a titanium dioxide plant in DeLisle in 1979; it is now operated by Chemours and is described as the second-largest titanium dioxide producer in the world. Contractors and service businesses that work in the area often keep trucks and trailers at home. If yours will, tell us, and we will build the drive with a deeper base and thicker asphalt where the heavy vehicle turns and parks.
Ditches and county roads
Many DeLisle roads drain through open ditches. When we pave a drive, we check the pipe at the ditch crossing and the slope of the apron so road runoff does not run up onto the drive. If the pipe is crushed or blocked, we include its replacement in the plan.
From gravel to paved
Gravel and dirt drives are common here. When gravel is thick and firm, it can be regraded and compacted as a base; otherwise we dig out and rebuild. We call MS811 for locates at least two working days before we dig.

DeLisle Questions
Is DeLisle part of Pass Christian?
No. It shares the ZIP code but is outside the city limits, so road connections fall under Harrison County.
My drive near the bayou keeps rutting. What is the fix?
Soft, wet soil under the drive needs to come out and be replaced with compacted stone. Then we pave and grade so water runs off.
Can you build a drive for a work truck and trailer?
Yes. We use a deeper base and thicker asphalt where the heavy vehicle turns and parks.
Will paving hurt my trees?
We keep excavation shallow near trees where we can and avoid cutting large roots. We talk through options when a root is in the way.
Do you serve Pass Christian and Long Beach?
Yes, along with the rest of Harrison County.
Road water runs onto my driveway. Can you stop it?
Usually, yes. We reshape the apron so it slopes away from your drive and make sure the culvert at the ditch can carry the water.
